Learn to create your own characters from imagination using the free digital art tools in Krita.
In this lesson, Sebastien will introduce you to the equipment and software you will need in order to follow along with this course.
Download the free digital painting software: Krita and learn how to use it's basic features.
Let's get warmed up by drawing some basic shapes.
Make thumbnail sketches for your illustration. Then, using basic shapes, sketch out your character on the canvas. Finally, brainstorm a color palette for the scene.
Let's paint in the shadow colors before adding the light on top.
Now for the fun part! Follow along as Sebastien places light colors on top of the shadow colors.
Some surfaces that are hit by light rays do not directly face the light source. Fill in "half-tone" colors to create a natural transition from light to shadow.
Light bounces. Follow along as Sebastien demonstrates painting ambient lights and highlights.
